Chapter 91
George Clark's eyes burned with desperation as his fist pounded against the wooden door.
"Open up! Open this door right now!"
The lights inside flickered out abruptly.
George's heart clenched, his voice cracking. "Lily! It's your father! Answer me!"
A sharp shout came from the courtyard. "Stop yelling! There's no Lily here! Get lost before I call for help!"
George's punches grew more frantic, the door shuddering under his blows. "Let my daughter go! If anything happens to her, I swear I'll kill you!"
A woman's panicked cry cut through the chaos. "Husband! Come quick! The girl—she's dying!"
George's vision darkened, the image of his daughter lying in a pool of blood flashing before his eyes.
"Move!" Andrew Smith's command was sharp.
Luna White understood instantly. "Pull the mayor back!"
Just as several young men dragged George away, a deafening crash echoed through the night—Andrew had kicked the sturdy door clean off its hinges.
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
That kick would have shattered bones if it had landed on a person...
Luna started forward, only to be yanked back by her collar.
"Stay behind me." Andrew pulled her protectively behind him without room for argument.
A man with bloodied hands burst out of the house. "What the hell are you doing? This is trespassing!"
Andrew's men immediately pinned him against the wall.
The metallic scent of blood filled the air.
Luna's stomach dropped—Lily hadn't escaped the fate of hemorrhaging after all.
George rushed into the inner room to find his daughter lying on the bed, the floral-patterned sheets beneath her soaked crimson.
"Lily!" George collapsed beside the bed, his voice trembling.
Lily's eyelids fluttered weakly, her pupils unfocused. "Dad... I'm sorry... Next life... I'll be a better daughter..."
Before she could finish, her body went limp.
"Lily! Wake up! I'm taking you to the hospital!" George moved to lift her, but Luna stopped him.
"Uncle, the hospital is three hours away. There's no time."
George spun around, knees buckling as if to kneel.
Luna caught him. "Uncle, I'll save her. Everyone needs to leave."
"Luna, she's my only daughter..." George clutched her hand, voice breaking.
A shout came from the corner. "Get her to a hospital now! Any longer and she'll die!"
Villagers poured in through the doorway, led by the mayor, who barked, "What's the meaning of barging in at this hour?"
The restrained man seized the opportunity. "Mayor! Call a doctor! She's bleeding out!"
The mayor paled. "Dr. Wu! Check her!"
A young bespectacled doctor was pushed forward. After a quick examination, he shook his head. "She's lost too much blood. She needs a major hospital—"
Before he could finish, George kicked him aside. "Get out!"
The villagers surged forward. "How dare you attack him?"
Luna gave George a firm nod before turning toward Lily.
