Chapter 381
Andrew Smith's face was dark with fury.
Every member of the special forces team could feel the oppressive atmosphere radiating from their captain. The training ground was thick with tension, almost suffocating.
"What's wrong with the Captain today?" Private Lee whispered to Sergeant Zhang beside him.
Sergeant Zhang shook his head. "No idea. He was fine yesterday when Dr. White visited."
The soldiers exchanged glances, each speculating silently. How could gentle Dr. White possibly anger the Captain? It must be one of his moods again.
Everyone sided with Dr. White. After all, the kind-eyed female doctor had treated many of their injuries with that crescent-moon smile of hers.
Andrew stood at the center of the training field, his gaze icy.
Wei Shufen had crossed a line this time. She'd actually sent Luna to the frontlines, exposing her to gunfire and mortal danger.
His fists clenched at the thought.
A distant whistle signaled assembly. Andrew drew a deep breath. Personal matters would have to wait—with border tensions rising, they could receive orders at any moment.
But this wasn't over.
Wei Shufen had always thought Andrew was reasonable. She'd been wrong. Dead wrong.
The uniformed man stood rigid, his composure deceptively intact. But the inferno in his dark eyes would have terrified anyone who looked closely.
An observer might have noticed the veins bulging in his gun hand—the telltale sign of barely restrained rage.
Every minute Luna spent at the frontlines carved at his heart like a knife. The woman he loved was in danger, and he was powerless to protect her.
This debt would be repaid.
Someday, Wei Shufen would pay dearly.
Wei Shufen stood pale-faced in the study.
"How could this happen?" Her voice trembled. "An Cheng, why would Andrew go there?"
An Cheng remained silent, brow furrowed.
"It's a warzone now!" She stamped her foot in agitation. "He's your most capable son! How could—"
The words caught in her throat.
Her plan had been flawless. Send that little doctor to the front—either she'd break or disappear. Simple.
But now Andrew had gone too.
Everything was spiraling out of control.
A sudden fear gripped Wei Shufen. If anything happened to Andrew...
She couldn't bear to finish the thought.
