Chapter 53
Luna White pushed through the crowd and immediately spotted her older sister, Iris, flushed with embarrassment as a woman with hands on her hips berated her, forcing her to retreat step by step. The woman held a chubby five-year-old boy by the arm while pointing aggressively at the tearful little girl behind Iris, spittle flying as she ranted.
"You raised a fine daughter! How dare she lay hands on my boy at such a young age? My little Tiger is the only heir in three generations! If anything happens to him, can you even afford to compensate us?" The woman’s shrill voice cut through the air like a blade. "If you don’t give me an answer today, I’m moving into your house!"
Though the onlookers wore sympathetic expressions, none dared to speak up. Luna recognized her instantly—Laura Taylor, the notoriously sharp-tongued wife of Factory Team Leader Wang.
"Fine. What kind of answer do you want?"
Luna stepped forward, shielding Iris. Her sister tugged at her sleeve anxiously. "Luna, don’t—"
Laura looked Luna up and down with disdain. "Who do you think you are? This isn’t your place to talk!"
"I’m the child’s aunt." Luna smirked, gesturing to the red-eyed little girl. "Look at your son—he’s half a head taller than our Daisy and built like a little bull. And you’re claiming she beat him up?" She turned to the crowd. "Does anyone here actually believe that?"
The murmurs erupted into loud protests.
"Exactly! Tiger’s always picking on others!"
"Last time, he pushed Daisy until her head was bleeding!"
"We all saw him snatch candy from her!"
Laura’s face twisted between pale and red before she suddenly shrieked, "Iris! If you don’t pay for my son’s medical bills today, I’ll report you to the factory! See if they’ll keep a temporary worker like you!"
Iris flinched and hurried forward. "Sister-in-law, the kids were just playing—"
"Playing?!" Laura shoved her back. "Pay up or get lost!"
Luna steadied her stumbling sister, her gaze sharp as steel. "Iris, we’re not backing down this time." She turned to Laura. "Let’s go to the factory right now. I’d love to ask the management if being a permanent employee’s family means you can act like a tyrant!"
She seized Laura’s wrist with an iron grip. "And while we’re at it, we can discuss how an adult like you hit a child! Let’s see who really owes whom compensation!"
Laura staggered from the force, her face finally paling.
