Chapter 238
After a good night's sleep in the hospital dormitory, Luna White woke up refreshed and ready for work the next day. With just three days left before her official holiday break, she couldn't help but feel giddy at the thought of going home.
"Oh, there you are, girl!" Dean Zhang beamed the moment he saw her. "Principal Andrew called to express his gratitude. He said the old man has been eating full bowls of rice and is in excellent spirits—all thanks to you."
Luna smiled modestly. "You're too kind, Dean. It's the hospital's follow-up care that made the real difference."
"By the way, I have good news for you," Dean Zhang lowered his voice conspiratorially. "After the New Year, you'll be sent to the medical university for a two-year advanced training program—with full salary! I fought hard for this opportunity, so make sure you don’t waste it."
Luna's eyes lit up, and she immediately gave an exaggerated salute. "Mission accepted!"
"Enough with the theatrics," Dean Zhang chuckled, waving her off. "Go on now, your patients are waiting."
In her office, her assistant Jack had already prepared her favorite white tea. Since becoming Luna's assistant, Jack had grown increasingly meticulous in his work.
After finishing her rounds for the day, Luna immediately called her brother Ethan to check in.
"Got the tickets—lower berth!" Ethan exclaimed excitedly over the phone. "We leave the day after tomorrow in the morning and should be home by evening."
No sooner had she hung up than the phone rang again.
"Hello?" Luna's heartbeat inexplicably quickened.
"Luna..." Andrew Smith's deep, slightly hoarse voice came through the receiver. "Miss me?"
Luna's face flushed instantly. "W-who would miss you?!"
"But I missed you," Andrew chuckled. "I’ll come see you tomorrow night. I’ve brought some local specialties, and... maybe I can try your cooking?"
"In your dreams!" Luna huffed before hanging up, though she couldn’t suppress the smile tugging at her lips.
While packing her luggage, she finally had time to inspect the gifts Andrew had sent. Opening the five large boxes one by one, Luna’s eyes widened in shock.
The topmost manila envelope contained neatly stacked bills—ten thousand dollars in crisp ten-dollar notes, gleaming temptingly under the light.
"This is..." Luna gasped. Though she’d handled large sums in her past life, ten thousand dollars in this era was equivalent to a fortune today!
Upon examining the other boxes, she realized how thorough Andrew had been—two contained clothes and jewelry for her, one held men’s essentials, and the remaining two were clearly intended for her family: watches, down jackets, stationery, liquor... He’d even prepared gifts for her sisters.
"Oh my..." Luna pressed a hand to her forehead. "How am I supposed to take all this home?"
Staring at the mountain of presents, she felt both touched and overwhelmed. Andrew’s New Year gifts were nothing short of extravagant.
