Chapter 113
Luna White's gaze remained fixed on her sister Maya's every move. When she noticed Maya's pale face and vacant stare, her heart lurched. No! She's thinking of ending her life! Luna dashed forward and seized Maya's wrist with a firm grip.
"Mrs. Lewis," Luna's voice was icy. "When my parents arranged Maya's marriage into your family, they never imagined you'd be so cruel as to let your own grandson die without lifting a finger!"
She turned to Maya. "Sis, the city hospital has new technology now—a simple blood test can prove paternity. Let’s take Samuel for the test. Once the results come out, we’ll shove them in Darren’s face! Then he won’t get a single penny, let alone half the family assets!"
The words snapped Maya out of her despair. She jerked her head up, a spark of hope igniting in her eyes.
"Really?" Ethan and Aaron Jackson exclaimed in unison. "Aunt Luna, we’ll work hard to earn the money! We won’t let Mom and Samuel suffer this injustice!"
Maya wiped her tears and clenched her jaw. "Even if it kills me, I’ll clear Samuel’s name!"
"Bullshit!" Darren Lewis sneered, rubbing his hands greedily. "Blood tests? Who are you trying to fool? Hurry up and sign the divorce papers—I’ve got a new wife waiting!"
Old Mrs. Lewis’s eyes darted nervously. She knew Maya was a good woman, but with her son dead set on divorce, she had to side with blood over reason.
"Did you earn that money?" Luna scoffed. "Darren, the way you beat your wife is enough to land you in prison!"
"Who are you trying to scare?" Darren jutted his chin defiantly. "Remember when Old Wang’s wife complained to the Women’s Federation? She still crawled back home in the end!"
Luna trembled with rage. "Fine! Sis, let’s go to the town government right now! Andrew’s car is parked outside—we’ll drive straight to the county office! Let’s see if they’ll ignore a life hanging in the balance!"
A dark thought flashed through her mind. What if… this bastard just disappeared? She startled at her own impulse. No. That’s too easy for him.
Andrew Smith had already scooped up Samuel. "Ethan, Aaron—help me carry him."
Mayor Simon Liu panicked and stepped in. "Captain Smith, escalating a family matter will only hurt the children—"
Andrew pressed a hand to Samuel’s feverish forehead. "Mayor Liu, this is a matter of life and death. If the Lewis family won’t pay for medical treatment, then let the government decide what’s fair."
Cold sweat dripped down Simon’s back. This soldier isn’t someone you can fool…
