Chapter 420

The trench smelled of damp earth after the rain, but it was far better than the earlier downpour. Luna White leaned against the muddy wall, watching as darkness swallowed the forested hills. The blurred outlines of trees twisted in the twilight, resembling crouching beasts.

"Eat something." Andrew Smith's voice startled her—she hadn't noticed his approach.

Luna instinctively patted her pocket. "I still have chocolate."

"Who are you fooling?" Andrew chuckled, pulling a half-empty can from his jacket and thrusting it at her. "Take this."

The savory aroma of luncheon meat hit her nostrils. Her stomach growled traitorously. As she accepted the can, her fingertips brushed against his hand—rough, strong, with pronounced knuckles. She couldn't help imagining how those hands would feel against her cheek.

"You haven't eaten either?" She unfolded her pocketknife, clumsily slicing a portion. "Open up."

Andrew arched an eyebrow but obediently took the meat from the blade's tip. His Adam's apple bobbed, though his gaze remained cool and steady.

Luna cut a smaller piece for herself. The salty richness exploded on her tongue, nearly drawing a moan. Damn this canned meat—it tasted better than any Michelin-starred meal.

"After we get back..." she mumbled between chews, "I'm having hotpot, braised pork, spicy chicken..."

Andrew suddenly took the knife from her, deftly dicing the remaining meat. Before she could react, he held the last piece to her lips.

"You—" Luna's eyes widened.

"Eat." His voice was soft. "We move soon."

The can emptied quickly. Luna licked her lips, realization dawning. "You gave me your entire share?"

Andrew didn't answer, just pocketed the empty tin. In the darkness, his sharp profile tensed, jawline rigid.

"Prepare to move out." He stood, his voice regaining its usual steel.

Watching his retreating figure, warmth flooded Luna's chest. This man always gave silently, never seeking credit. She clenched her fists, swearing inwardly—they would survive this. Survive to share that promised hotpot.
