The morning sun had just begun to filter into the office when Luna White was unbuttoning her white coat. The door burst open with a loud bang.
"Dr. White!" The energetic intern, Li, rushed in, waving a stack of letters. "An urgent telegram for you!"
Luna raised an eyebrow. "So lively this early in the morning?" She took the telegram and casually pulled a chocolate bar from her desk drawer. "Here, a reward for you."
Li's eyes lit up, though she tried to appear composed. "That's more like it." She quickly pocketed the chocolate, though the corners of her mouth betrayed her delight.
Luna observed the lively intern with quiet approval. Despite her boisterous nature, Li never overstepped. The chocolates on the desk never disappeared unless given by Luna herself.
The moment she tore open the telegram, Luna's smile vanished.
"What's wrong?" Li sensed the shift in mood.
Without answering, Luna grabbed the phone and dialed. Factory Manager Victor Green's obsequious voice came through the line. "Dr. White, I'll get Director Iris for you right away."
"Second Sister!" Luna's voice was urgent the moment the call connected. "Any news about William?"
"Nothing yet. That boy—" Iris began, but Luna cut her off.
"He's in trouble!" Luna's voice trembled. "I just got a distress telegram—he's been taken captive!"
A loud clatter sounded from the other end, as if something had been knocked over. "What? William, he—" Iris's voice rose sharply. "I'm coming with your brother-in-law right now!"
"Wait!" Luna forced herself to stay calm. "Let me investigate first. You—"
"Investigate what?" Iris was nearly in tears. "That boy was practically raised by me!"
After hanging up, Iris, red-eyed, made to dash out. Victor quickly intercepted her. "Director White, what's happened?"
"My brother's been taken..." Iris stammered in distress.
Victor's eyes flickered with calculation. "Don't panic. I'll approve your leave immediately." The moment Iris left, he dialed his father-in-law.
Meanwhile, in the military compound, Old Mr. Turner was giving orders to Richard Adams. "Take Nathaniel with you. Make sure this is handled properly."
Richard snapped to attention. "Mission will be accomplished!"
Luna stared at the hastily scrawled "HELP" on the telegram, her fingers tightening unconsciously. What had happened to William? A grown man taken captive... Her mind flashed to horrifying rumors of organ trafficking, sending a chill down her spine.
"Dr. White?" Li looked at her with concern. "What can I do?"
Luna took a deep breath. "Contact the Security Department for me." She needed to verify the telegram's authenticity first. If it was real... Her fists clenched. Then every second counted.
Outside the window, sparrows chirped as they flitted past, oblivious to human suffering. Luna watched them, her heart heavy. William, hold on...
