Chapter 295

Ten minutes later, Luna White finally stopped trembling. What had happened couldn't be undone—there was no use avoiding it now.

"How did you find me?" Her voice still quivered slightly.

Andrew Smith and Nathaniel Smith's timely arrival had been nothing short of a miracle. Shang Kaijie hadn't come alone this time—he'd brought backup and even a gun. If they hadn't shown up when they did...

"We tracked him for a full day and night," Andrew said, his voice low. "The bastard knows how to hide. The last trace we had of him was by the highway before he vanished."

Nathaniel picked up the thread. "We tracked down one of his lackeys' wives. She said her husband went with Shang Kaijie to 'deal with a woman.'"

"We went straight to the hospital dorm," Andrew clenched his fists. "When you weren't there, I knew you'd be here."

Guilt weighed heavily in his voice. "I'm sorry. I promised to protect you."

Luna leaned into his embrace. "This isn't your fault. Shang Kaijie was determined to get revenge—you couldn't have predicted this."

Her warm breath tickled his chest, sending a jolt through him. He suppressed the flutter in his chest. "Warmer now?"

"Yeah."

"Then let's deal with Shang Kaijie." Andrew quickly shrugged on his coat.

As they stepped out of the room, Luna's older sister, Luna Whitaker, approached with a steaming cup of ginger tea.

"You okay now?" She scrutinized her younger sister with concern.

Luna downed the tea in one gulp. "I'm fine, sis."

Only then did Luna Whitaker relax. The state her sister had been in earlier—it was like she'd just crawled back from death's door.

Samuel Jackson came running over, lifting his shirt to reveal a dark bruise on his stomach.

"Does it hurt?" Luna asked, her heart aching at the sight.

"Nah... ow!" The boy tried to tough it out but winced anyway.

Luna gently rubbed the spot, and Samuel immediately sighed in relief. "Auntie's hands are magic!"

"Don't push yourself," Luna Whitaker warned quietly. "You scared us half to death earlier."

Meanwhile, Nathaniel and Andrew were murmuring in low voices. Andrew stepped forward. "Luna, there's something..."

Understanding, Luna turned to her sister. "Sis, take the kids to rest first."

Once Luna Whitaker had ushered the children away, Andrew spoke again. "Shang Kaijie is completely paralyzed now. He can't even speak."

Luna didn't shy away from it. "I did that. It was him or me."

Nathaniel's eyes lit up. "Pressure points?"

"Now we have no choice but to silence him for good," Andrew said grimly.

Luna startled. She hadn't meant to push Andrew to this extreme.

"Wait!" she hurriedly interjected. "It's reversible!"

Both men exhaled in relief. Andrew scratched his head. "I wasn't thinking straight..."

Nathaniel chuckled ruefully. "We panicked."

Luna looked at them, warmth flooding her chest. For her sake, they'd been willing to abandon their principles.

"Let's go," she said softly. "We'll settle this first."

Under the moonlight, their shadows stretched long across the ground. The storm was finally coming to an end.
