Chapter 327
When Sally dropped Luna White, William Cooper, and Lily Clark at the hospital entrance, Luna specifically reminded her, "Bring your mother back for a follow-up in five days. Two more acupuncture sessions should fully restore her health."
Sally nodded repeatedly, her eyes glistening. "Dr. White, I promise I'll bring her on time. I'd do anything to see her well again."
By the time the trio returned to their dormitory, it was already noon. Luna glanced at the wall clock and said to Lily, "Grab the lunchboxes and pot. Let's head to the cafeteria. Everyone must be starving after this morning."
The aroma of food wafted through the cafeteria. Lily studied Luna's pale complexion and said with concern, "Luna, you're exhausted, aren't you? I saw your hands shaking while treating that elderly woman."
Luna forced a weak smile. "I'll be fine after some rest."
After collecting their meals, the four gathered around a small table. Lily's gaze lingered on Luna's gaunt face, and suddenly, her eyes welled up. "Luna... was it even harder when you saved me back then?"
Luna paused mid-bite. "That's in the past. No need to bring it up."
But Lily stubbornly scooped a large portion of braised pork into Luna's bowl. "Eat more. You're so thin—a strong breeze could knock you over."
Luna quickly blocked her from adding more. "That's enough. You all need to eat too." She served each of them a spoonful of meat. "Don't just focus on me. Meals taste better when shared."
William had been silently devouring his food. Noticing this, Luna asked, "William, what are your plans now? Returning home or staying in the city?"
He set down his chopsticks, hesitating. "I... I want to stay and find work."
Luna nodded. It was 1986—the early days of economic reform, ripe with opportunities. She silently resolved to help him. These were good, loyal people; aiding them was akin to aiding herself.
The thought of Kelsey Shaw's sudden reappearance sent a chill down Luna's spine. The tragedies of her past life must never repeat. She needed to strengthen her influence quickly. Though Shawn Johnson was reliable, their relationship was transactional at its core. Andrew Smith might be sincere, but who could guarantee history wouldn't repeat itself?
"William, I have an idea—" Luna began, only to be interrupted by a knock at the door.
An unexpected visitor stood outside.
