Chapter 55
Little Bao clutched his stinging bottom as he shuffled toward Daisy, sniffling pitifully, his face streaked with tears and snot. "D-Daisy... I'm sorry... I won't snatch your things again..."
Daisy's heart softened at his miserable state. She wiped his tears with her sleeve. "Alright, as long as you know you were wrong." Kids never held grudges for long.
Little Bao nodded vigorously, fresh tears rolling down his cheeks. "I swear! If anyone bullies you, I'll beat them up!"
Laura Taylor stormed over, her face dark with fury. She yanked Little Bao's ear, dragging him back. "Standing here making a fool of yourself!" Humiliation burned in her chest—today had been a complete disgrace.
Luna White stepped forward, blocking their path with a cold smirk. "Leaving so soon?" Her voice was sharp. "An apology is expected, but what about compensation?"
She wasn’t being petty. Bullies only learned their lesson when it hurt. A simple "sorry" wasn’t enough—they had to feel the sting.
Laura’s eyes darted, then she suddenly dropped to the ground, slapping her thigh as if ready to wail. Luna cut her off with an icy tone. "Go ahead. Scream. I’ll take Daisy straight to the factory gates and see who cries louder."
Laura’s fake sob choked in her throat, her face flushing crimson. The factory? That was her husband’s livelihood! This girl was ruthless.
"W-what do you want?" Laura’s voice shrank to a whisper.
The watching neighbors instinctively took a step back. The White girl was fierce—no one wanted to get scorched by her fire.
"Simple." Luna arched a brow. "Have your husband make five hundred coal briquettes, and we’ll call it even."
Laura brightened instantly. "Deal!" No money lost—just some labor? She almost thought the Whites were being generous.
The crowd dispersed, murmuring as they left:
"Iris’ sister is something else!"
"Who’d dare mess with her family now?"
"Wish I had a sister like that..."
Iris pulled Luna toward home, her heart aching yet warm. Her little sister used to be so timid—this sharpness must have come from hardship at their uncle’s place.
Daisy clung to Luna’s sleeve, her small face glowing with excitement. "Mom, is this Auntie Luna? She’s amazing!"
Maya trailed behind, stomping in frustration. No one paid her any attention, and her grip on her bag nearly tore the fabric.
