Chapter 415

Luna Whitaker stood at the kitchen doorway, nervously twisting the hem of her blouse. Watching her mother-in-law bustling by the stove, warmth bloomed in her chest.

"Mom, let me help," she said softly.

The elderly woman waved without turning. "Go on, you're thin as a reed. Go rest." Her spatula danced across the sizzling pan, filling the air with savory aromas.

Luna opened her mouth to protest when the older woman suddenly spun around, eyes twinkling. "What would you like? I'll cook whatever you want."

"I..." Luna's eyes grew moist.

"What? Don't like my cooking?" The old woman feigned sternness.

"Of course not!" Luna shook her head hurriedly. "I just don't want you to tire yourself."

The matriarch studied her daughter-in-law. Though slender, the girl had clear, honest eyes. Her foolish husband had no idea what a treasure they'd found in this wife.

At dinner, Ryan Wallace served his brother another slice of meat. "Stay a few more days, Erniu. I'll show you around the city."

The younger brother scratched his head. "It's too big, brother. Mom and I nearly got lost just coming here."

Ryan laughed. "Just ask for directions! Everyone knows our hotpot restaurant now."

The old woman cocked her head. "When did you learn to cook, Ryan? You couldn't even boil noodles properly at home."

Ryan grinned sheepishly. "That's all thanks to Luna. She gave us the hotpot recipe."

Luna smiled quietly beside him. Who would've thought? A year ago they'd been crammed in a tiny rental, and now they owned a home and two delivery vans.

Watching her son's animated face, the old woman felt the weight lift from her heart. Life, it seemed, kept getting sweeter.
